Perianal abscess surgery, usually called incision and drainage, involves a doctor making an incision in the abscess to drain the pus. This is often performed as a day case under local or general anesthesia, where the wound is typically left open to heal from the inside out. In some cases, a drain may be inserted for a few weeks to ensure complete drainage, and packing may be placed inside the wound.
